Com base na tradição doméstica, os membros da família afirmam ter vindo de Arona, de onde um Cecco os teria trazido para Cesena, que deu nome à família (Cecco d'Arona); mas parece mais provável que tenha se mudado para a cidade de Sant'Egidio, um lugar na área de Cesena. Goza do patrocínio de Cesena (m.). Ocupou por muito tempo uma sede do conselho do município e de S. Marino (m.). Por concessão do Conselho Príncipe da República a Carlo, Giovanni e Lodovico di Giulio, em 13 de julho de 1760. Desde o primeiro desses três irmãos, Pier Domenico nasceu em 1757, com cujos filhos Carlo (n. 1797) e Fabrizio (n. 1800) a casa foi dividida em dois ramos.
