Familia muy antigua e ilustre, originaria del territorio de Florencia, esta familia se caracterizó por personajes de grandes virtudes, en 1391 Piero di Francesco di Andrea fue un castillo de la fortaleza de Monte. Su hijo Lorenzo en 1436 era de los Priores de Pescia y desde entonces la familia disfrutaba constantemente de este cargo, hasta que el último Gran Duque de los Medici lo levantó en honor del gonfalonierato. En 1637, el canon Giovanbattista di Antonio fundó una comandancia en el orden de S.
