Questa famiglia di valorosi soldati dalmati, devota alla Rep. di S. Marco, è originaria della Dalmazia, dove i suoi lontanissimi antenati erano probabilmente scesi, con le orde slave, dalle sterminate regioni degli Urali e del Baltico. Del suo capostipite non vi sono notizie certe; la famiglia sembra trasferitasi in epoca imprecisata nel contado di Zara e pervenuta ad una posizione eminente tra la popolazione del luogo, ove godette, stando alla tradizione, del titolo di Cavaliere. Distintasi nelle guerre di Candia, Morea, Albania, e Peloponneso. Si acquistarono fama di valorosi soldati un Giovanni colonnello dei fanti veneti nella guerra i Candia e nelle successive, due dei suoi figli, che vi perdettero la vita, e un terzo figlio che all'assalto di Prevesa rimase mortalmente ferito. Il capitano Luca combatté valorosamente a Negromante, Valona e Canina in Morea. Sulla fine del '700 la famiglia si trasferì a Venezia, facendo vasti acquisti di campagne
