Si pretese che questa famiglia originaria di Val Nespolaria in Friuli discendesse dalla famiglia di Vito d'Asio, un ramo dei quali passato a S. Daniele, conseguì la nobiltà. A prova di ciò si addusse un contratto stipulato nel 1636 ai 13 di aprile fra Candido di Martino di Vito d'Asio e Giov. Maria pure C., asserito di lui cugino in terzo grado, col quale il primo cedeva al secondo in enfiteusi il luogo di Val Nespolaria, rimasto poi residenza della famiglia. Ora tale affermata consanguineità, che resta a provarsi, non basta per dimostrare che i due contraenti appartenessero allo stesso ceppo, dato che in quella regione abbonda il cognome patronimico Cecon, Ciconi, portato da famiglie che non hanno fra loro sangue comune. Chi procurò ricchezze ed onori alla famiglia fu Giacomo, nato a Val Nespolaria il 29 settembre 1833, che partito povero di casa per recarsi a lavorare da muratore
