Família romana antiga e muito nobre, de virtude clara e ancestral, anteriormente conhecida como Cithera, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália. As primeiras informações sobre o estoque já podem ser encontradas no século XIII, com alguns documentos preservados no Arquivo Urbano. A família se relacionou com outras famílias nobres, como a Albertini, de 1507, a Capocci, de 1520, a Frangipani, no mesmo ano, com a Galliani, em 1562, com as Américas, a Muti e a Palatini em 1563 e com a Valle, em 1570. Na igreja de San Gregorio, existem duas lápides; a primeira dizia: "Camilli de Cithera Nobilis Romani Hic Ossa Requiescunt Vixit Annos XXXX. Mens VI, morre XXX, ano D.ni MDLXX"; o outro diz: "Dilectissimae Conjugi Hyeronimae de Valle Nob. Rom. Quae Vixit Annos LIII. Mens IV, morre IV. Camillus de Cithera Nob. Rom. Multis Cum Lacrimis Monumentum Hoc Fieri Curavit MDLXX,
