Il senato veneto, con Decreto dell'anno 1669, conferì a questa famiglia il titolo di conte, che venne riconosciuto con S.R.A. 30 marzo 1875. La nobiltà proveniente dall'ascrizione al Consiglio di Zara venne confermata in data 20 ottobre 1822. Il predicato di Castello di Bencovich spetta a questa famiglia, perché concesso del Senato veneto col decreto sopra enunciato. Con D.P. 9 agosto 1925 i titoli suddetti di nobile di Zara, mf., e conte col predicato di Castello di Bencovich vennero riconosciuti a: Girolamo, n. Sebenico, 6 novembre 1848, di Simeone, di Antonio e di Maria Inchiostri, sposato Zara, 15 maggio 1905 con Silvia Borelli di Wrana. Che i membri della famiglia Cegna siano noncuranti delle cose volgari, ripromettendosi dalle sole loro energie la dovuta ricompensa, lo provano i documenti fino ad oggi conosciuti come il Dizionario Storico-Blasonico del commendatore G.B. di Crollalanza che ne ha raccolte le tracce lasciate dalla famiglia
