La famille est connue dans le pays de Populonia, principauté de Piombino, depuis le XVe siècle et y aurait été transplantée de Ferrare où elle jouissait du rang de noble magistrat, obtenant l'adhésion à cette aristocratie. SM Vittorio Emanuele II avec le décret royal du 23 octobre 1871 nomma Azzolino, maire de Piombino pour la période triennale 1871-1873, poste qui lui fut confirmé presque continuellement jusqu'en 1882. Avec le D. Préfet du 6 juin 1862, il obtint également la nomination en tant que capitaine de la Garde nationale de Piombino. Le préfet du compartiment de Pise lui a également conféré le poste de prieur du nouveau magistrat de la communauté de Piombino pour les années 1859 et 60.
