Vuolsi originaria di Bergamo, questa illustre famiglia, da dove un Giovanni-Antonio venne a Venezia, come giovine di banco di Domenico Biava. In breve tempo divenne ricco mercante, fu in Olanda Console Veneto, offrì alla Repubblica per la guerra di Morea 100 mila ducati, e ne ebbe in compenso la nobiltà nel 1685. Un Alessandro, fratello di Giovanni-Antonio, che teneva con altri soci il Banco pubblico del Sale, fu scoperto reo di fellonia e pubblicamente convinto e condannato alla restituzione di 60 mille ducati truffati al Governo. Allora il figlio Gio. Batt. per timore di una confisca generale dei propri beni, si emancipò dal padre, coprendo il capitale colla dote della moglie, e trasportò in Olanda gli effetti migliori della casa, continuando felicemente i propri affari. Intanto, morto il padre, e non essendo egli compreso nel bando, nè avendo subito condanna alcuna, mise in ordine ogni cosa, e non solo
