Cette famille nous est parfaitement connue, soit que nous la considérions dans sa position sociale, soit que nous l'admirions dans les hommes recommandables qu'elle a produits. Nous regrettons que l'absence de plus amples renseignements ne nous conduise pas plus avant dans le passé, car tout indique que nous y trouverions les témoignages d'une origine plus reculée qui pourrait bien aller se souder à l'une des races puissantes qui firent la gloire et la force du moyen-âge. Nous trouvons cette famille établie d'abord en Bretagne et sans doute depuis longtemps, à en juger par les énonciations de l'acte de 1613. Parmi les personnages les plus célèbres de cette famille on remarque: Guillaume èpouse 1° en 1325 Aliette de Poilley, 2° Jeanne d'Espianay; du 1° lit: Sylvestre, grand aumônier de France, évêque de Coutances en 1371, décédé en 1386; Etienne, élu des aides au diocèse d'Avranches en 1371; un page du roi en 1742.
