Since the thirteenth century there are memories of this family, ascribed to the patrician of Nepi. It had the consignory of the fiefdoms of Collestatte and Torre Orsina in Umbria with the title of comital, and which was invested on 1 February 1750 by Giambattista Cerbelli, an investiture confirmed by Benedict XIV with the other of the fief of Baschi. Gabriele in 1513 Vice-duke of Nepi; Philip knight of the Order of Calatrava; Ottavio brave captain in the 16th century. Numerous authors of the family described events and characters, attributed various origins to it without any valid attestation. Modern historical criticism has, on the safe basis of the documents, accounted for the artificial genealogical reconstructions of those writers who, out of complacent spirit of flattery, claimed to have this family descended from noble and ancient prosapias like that of other families.
