The Cerretti family, born in Reggio E., has been registered in the matriculation of Reggio families since the mid-seventeenth century and was granted the noble citizenship of Reggio and patrician of said city, given to the Pellegrino and Cristoforo di Paolo brothers. The first of them (n. 8 April 1764, dec. 8 March 1820) was Canon and Archpriest of the Cathedral of Reggio. Vicar General of the Diocese, and highly reputed sacred orator. Graduated in law he taught Roman law in the Law course in Reggio; then Sacred Scripture in the Seminary. Appointed to Bishop of Carpi, he refused to accept for domestic duties. He left many printed and unpublished works of Theology and Sacred Sciences. It is remembered by a beautiful Latin epigraph in the Cathedral of Reggio. Cristoforo, noble guard of honor of HRH the Duke of Modena, married the ND Ippolita Fogliani Della Torricella Denaglia, the last of this ancient and illustrious family. She died on March 19, 1849.
