Antica famiglia pavese, passata a risiedere in Roma con un Antonio, esponente della primaria nobiltà di Pavia, agli albori del secolo XVII, ove, stante la sua profonda conoscenza in materia legale divenne, Avvocato Concistoriale. Una serie non interrotta d'individui di questa famiglia, si distinsero nelle scienze e nelle lettere, tra cui, Carlo, creato Cardinale nel 1669, il quale divenne legato di Urbino e poi vescovo di Ferrara, ed Antonio che fu Conservatore di Roma più volte e specialmente nel 1689, nel quale anno, con Flaminio Pietri e Mariano Vecchiarelli, ebbe la dignità senatoriale in seguito della morte del marchese Cesare Negrelli.
