Fu antica, e nobile la famiglia Cesareo, ai tempi dell'Imperatore Enrico VI in Verona, e di lì col medesimo Imperatore, passò in Sicilia, e si fermò nella città di Palermo. Il conduttor di lei, fu Pier Albiano Cesareo cavalier Veronese, il quale s'impegnò a servire il medesimo Imperatore in molte militar occasioni. Vuol Cipriano Manente, nella sua "Antica Italia", che il cognome Cesareo l'acquistò questa famiglia al tempo dell'Imperatore Ottone II, e tolse per arme un'Aquila d'oro, nel petto della quale un campo celeste con due bande d'oro, e discendono dalla destra alla sinistra. Il predetto Pier Albiano ebbe per moglie Fausta figlia, di Henrico, Senator Palermitano, che gli procreò Nicolò, e Bartolomeo, che furono ambedue paggi dell'Imperatrice Costanza, e poi gentiluomini di custodia di Corrado, figlio dell'imperatore Federico II. Da Bartolomeo nacque quel chiarissimo Barone Nicolò Cesareo, che fu Straticoto di Messina nel 1278; del quale parla in molti
