Antichissima e pregevolissima stirpe ligure, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. La prima attestazione di questo cognome si ha già nel 1199, trovandosi un "Guido di Cevasco" menzionato in un documento con quella datazione. La famiglia Cevasco annoverasi tra le più importanti della città di Genova ed i suoi esponenti furono mercanti e politici assai influenti, durante il periodo della Repubblica. Molte le linee in cui si divise. Araldicamente, si ricorda Simone Cevasco, fiorente nella prima metà del XVII secolo, il quale fu padre di Giovan Battista che, a sua volta, ebbe due figli: Giovan Francesco e Giovan Benedetto. Il primo, deceduto nel 1665, diseredato dal padre, fu padre di Francesco Maria, da cui Giulio Cesare in primogenitura; il secondo, nato nel 1629, fu padre di Domenico Ignazio (n. 1691), primo iscritto alla nobiltà genovese nel 1714.
