Antica famiglia diramatasi in Acqui e a Savona. Le appartiene il celebre poeta Gabriele (n. Savona, 8 giugno 1552; dec. a Savona il 14 ottobre 1638), senza che ne sia noto esattamente l'attacco genealogico. Meritano particolare menzione la linea di Montaxonnex e Vougy, investita del feudo il 5 novembre 1785 nella persona del senatore avv. Ferdinando con titolo signorile, poi con titolo comitale (30 gennaio 1787). Anteriormente a questa linea erasi formata, sulla fine del secolo XV, la linea d'Acqui che, attraverso numerose generazioni diede luogo a due branche distinte, l'una comitale, l'altra nobile. Clemente di Paolo, di Clemente (n. 1776; dec. 11 gennaio 1840) procreò, fra altri figli, Emanuele e Gabriele. Emanuele (n. Acqui 1 luglio 1814), raggiunse i gradi di maggior generale (14 giugno 1860) e di tenente generale (14 settembre 1864) e fu commendatore dell'ordine di Savoia e aiutante di campo onorario del Re.
