La prima memoria che si à dei Chiapponi risle al 1183, vivendo in tal epoca un Clapo e Chiappone eletto fra i giudici da spedirsi a Costanza per firmare la pace. Dal 1400 al 1712 furono signori del castello di Rezzanello con titolo comitale, qual dominio e titolo passò nei Douglas Scotti sendosi la famiglia Chiapponi estinta in quest'ultima con la morte di Teodora unica superstite ed erede universale di Daniele Chiapponi, e sposa al Marchese Annibale-Deodato Scotti. Gabriele Chiapponi distinto milite nell'esercito di Nicolò Piccino nel 1436. Battista uno dei deputati eletti dadl Consiglio generale di Piacenza nel 1474 per la erezione dell'Ospedal grande. Alessandro servì in molte ambascerie il Duca Ottavio Farnese, da cui fu creato cavaliere, conte palatino e tesorier generale di Piacenza. Don Giovanni-Maria vescovo di Rettino in Candia nel 1560.
