El primer recuerdo del Chiapponi se remonta a 1183, y en ese período, un Clapo y Japón eligieron entre los jueces para ser enviados a Constanza para firmar la paz. De 1400 a 1712 fueron señores del castillo de Rezzanello con un título oficial, cuyo dominio y título pasaron a Douglas Scotti, que envió a la familia Chiapponi extinta en este último con la muerte de Theodora, el único sobreviviente y heredero universal de Daniele Chiapponi, y se casó con el Marqués Annibale -Deodato Scotti. Gabriele Chiapponi distinguió al soldado en el ejército de Nicolò Piccino en 1436. Battista, uno de los diputados elegidos por el Consejo General de Piacenza en 1474 para la construcción del gran hospital. Alessandro sirvió en muchas embajadas del duque Ottavio Farnese, del que fue creado caballero, conde palatino y tesorero general de Piacenza. Don Giovanni-Maria obispo de Rettino en Candia en 1560.

Chiapponi di Piacenza. Citato in "Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane estinte e fiorenti" vol.II, pag. 286, compilato dal Comm. G.B. di Crollalanza, edito presso la direzione del giornale araldico, Pisa 1888. Si trova anche nella forma Chiappalone.
