Antichissimo casato bolognese, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, il quale pare chiamarsi Chiariotti per cagione di una donna di nome Chiara, resasi talmente riguardevole, dal dare il proprio nome ad una strada, e che fu del Consiglio dei 400. Bartolomeo Chiariotti era sindaco e procuratore della Repubblica, e come tale si presentò al Cardinale per la città, e, nel 1287, fu Proconsole. Primiriano, di Martino, fu nel consiglio degli Anziani di detta città; Tommaso, di Bartolomeo, dei Savi e, nel 1300, degli Anziani. Lo stesso, nel 1316, come Capitano dei Bolognesi, soccorse Monteaguro con 30 Balestrieri, Lamberto esule per rivoluzioni, fu richiamato alla Patria, Filippo, di Bartolomeo, fu Stendardiero del guasto di S. Procolo. Picciolo, di Filippo, fu nel consiglio degli Anziani, nel 1327; Filippo, di Lorenzo, dei Savi, nel 1326, e fu ufficiale della Biada.
