La famiglia trae origine dal Monastero di Lanzo. L'avvocato Giacomo Francesco primo ufficiale nel Ministero dell'Interno acquistò nel 1789 il feudo di Thènezol con annesso titolo di barone. Essendo morto senza successione lasciò erede il fratello Placido Ignazio dottore collegiale in legge, il quale nel 1815 ottenne l'investitura del titolo ricordato per sè e per il figlio adottivo Placido Nuvoli, divenuto poi presidente della R. Camera dei Conti con onori di presidente capo. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale col titolo di barone di Thènezol (mpr.), in persona di Annibale, della di lui figlia e delle cugine di quest'ultima Gabriella ed Elisa.
