La famiglia, originaria di Marciana in provincia di Pisa, dove visse sempre decorosamente del proprio, divenne piú nota nel secolo scorso pe due illustri giuristi, Antonio e Pietro, che raggiunsero nella magistratura gradi elevatissimi. A Giovanni, di Enrico, di Pietro, cavaliere nell'Ordine del S. Sepolcro, e al fratello Antonio, avvocato fu rinnovato il titolo di nobile, trasmissibile ai discendenti, con Regio Decreto 7 giugno 1928 e RR. LL. PP. 23 agosto 1829. I predetti cavalieri Giovanni e avvocato Antonio C. erano stati autorizzati con Regio Decreto 7 aprile 1907 ad aggiungere al proprio il cognome Bellanti, con ordine alle disposizioni testamentarie della madre Giulia, di Giovanni Bellanti, alla morte della quale, avenuta l'8 dicembre 1905, rimase estinsta una delle famiglie piú antiche di Siena, dove giá nel 1286 con Leonardo, di Giovanni, detto il Bellanti, figura tra i Signori Nove per il Terzo di Camollìa.
