Family from Cagliari, whose news dates back to the eighteenth century. He belonged to the comfortable bourgeoisie, a Ciarella was a councilor of Cagliari, others practiced the liberal professions. In the second half of the 18th century, a Michele obtained the fishponds of the S. Gilla pond and amassed a considerable patrimony. He was papal consul in Malta and, in 1796, received the title of count from the pope. In 1799 he obtained hereditary knighthood and nobility in Sardinia. His nephew Michele, in the 19th century, obtained the recognition of the pontifical comital title. There was no news of the family from the second half of the 19th century.
