Antigua familia abruzense, de clara y ancestral virtud, difundida a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia y del mundo. La tradición dice que desciende de la familia noble del Reino de Nápoles, de origen normando, Cioffi, conocida desde la época de Carlos I de Anjou. La familia Cioffo primero tuvo una residencia en Nápoles desde donde luego pasó a Salerno para luego expandirse por todo el Reino. Se dice que un exponente de esta familia, apodado "Cioffolillo", se habría traído, no sabemos en qué época pero ciertamente muy remota, a los Abruzos, dando lugar a una nueva línea propia que de su apodo tomó el apellido , que luego se convirtió con el tiempo en Ciffolilli.
