Apellido de origen castellano. Nombre toponímico que se deriva de la voz castellana "celda" y a su vez de la locución latina cella, con las acepciones de "granero" o "bodega"; por consiguiente C. padría significar bodguero o "el que tiene la misíon de cuidar un granero". Los principales linajes de C. aparecen con expedientes en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid, coincidiendo en su mayor parte en la provincia de Logroño (Calahorra, Haro, etc.) y también en Bilbao y Villar del Río, provincia de Soria. En el Registro del Sello Mayor de Bilbao se hace mencíon a don Manuel Víctor de C., Fernández, Pérez, Ugalde, cuyo padre ganó Real Provisión de Hidalguía en la Chancillería de Valladolid en al año 1816. Con la Reconquista pasó a Extremadura y dió nombre al antiguo poblado de Cilleros, de la provincia de Cáceres, partido judicial de Hoyos. Sirvió el Rey Don Fernando III el Santo, en las conquistas de Extremadura y Andalucía y se encotró en la Batalla deBaeza, en 1227.
