Antichissima famiglia castellana e parlamentare del Friuli, derivata da un Detalmo, signore di Cergneu, che in un atto del 25 novembre 1303, rogato da un notaio anonimo di Cividale (Archivio notarile di Udine) è detto figlio del qm. D. Corrado di Savorgnano, il quale a sua volta è ritenuto figlio di Rodolfo, capostipite dell'illustre casato dei Savorgnan patrizi veneziani. Il figlio di Detalmo, Pietro, faceva acquisto nel 1357 del castello di Brazzà Superiori dagli antichi signori del luogo, e dal nome di questo venne coi successori chiamato di B. o Brazzacco. Giovanni, suo fratello (1326-1356), continuò invece la linea dei Cergneu, che si estinse nel 1766. A questa appartenne il nobile Giov. Battista di Cergneu (nato 1490, dec. 1567) efficace cronista delle guerre civili friulane del suo tempo. Dei figli del detto Pietro, l'uno, Gaspare (dec. 1365), continuò la linea a detta di B.
