Alte und adelige Familie aus der Toskana, von klarer und angestammter Tugend, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte weltweit verbreitet hat. Dieses Adelshaus stammt ursprünglich aus der Stadt Pisa, wo es seit dem 12. Jahrhundert präsent ist. Das erste Familienmitglied, von dem wir wissen, ist ein Guiscardo, einer der Tausend, die 1188 den Genuesen Frieden schworen. Auch der ehrwürdige Villana gehörte der Familie an, an die im Leben der Heiligen Gherardesca des Kamaldulenserordens erinnert wird.
