A origem desta família, anteriormente chamada Cionelli e depois Cianelli, remonta ao início do século XIII, no qual faziam parte do consórcio Aluminati. Durante o século 14, abundantes memórias são encontradas nos arquivos públicos e na Biblioteca Real de Lucca. Pertenciam várias vezes ao Conselho Geral de Anciãos daquela República. Giovanni C: em 1395, ele ocupava a posição suprema de gonfalonier; antes e depois de 1382 a 1400, dez vezes ele havia sido o número de idosos. No século XV, pouco depois da queda do Guinigi, os Cionelli, desses zelosos advogados, abandonaram Lucca e mudaram-se para uma cidade vizinha, Benobbio, onde viveram nos séculos XVI e XVII. No século XVIII, o Conselho Geral da República reintegrou Cirilo C. na cidadania de Lucca, junto com seus descendentes. Disse que Cirilo em 1729 se mudou para Nápoles, onde estabeleceu sua casa, que há alguns anos vive em Paris, relacionada a famílias francesas
