Ancient and very noble Sicilian family, originally from Spain, which, according to what Mugnos reports, derives its name from an ancient French baron called "Cirino", squire of Count Roger. Some branches of the family arose in Naples and in the Abruzzi and many of its members were gentlemen at the Angevin court. In Sicily, however, we find the Cirino family at the court of Federico II. A Pierbergi Cirino married Messina and became rich by succession of vast assets of his uncle, having possessed the fiefdoms of S. Basilio and Landone in the territory of Milazzo 1397. An Antonio or Antonello, son of the aforementioned Pierbergi, who was succeeded in 1416, through marriage, he obtained the barony of Melelao or Favari, in the territory of Mineo. To him, who died without issue, was succeeded by his brother Giovanni, in 1459, who held the office of sworn master throughout the kingdom.
