Famiglia antica, da Neive, oriunda d'Asti. Varie rami della famiglia si propagarono in diverse regioni d'Italia. Le prime memorie risalgono a Giovanni Antonio, dottore in leggi, giudice di Bra, vicario d'Alessandria, creato conte palatino da Carlo V (21 marzo 1530). Si attribuisce a lui e al fratello Pietro la gloriosa difesa della torre di Lu Monferrato nel 1523. Ebbe, tra altri figli, Augerio, giudice in Asti, padre di Emilio, che fu cavaliere di giustizia dei SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro (3 gennaio 1576) e segretario di S. A. (12 ottobre 1591); Giambattista, continuatore della casata, e Gabriele, stipite dell'estinto ramo dei conti di Pietraporporzio e Pombernardo per investiture 30 novembre 1725 e 15 febbraio 1732.
