Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Bertrand, croisé en 1248 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois); Olivier, de la campagnie d'Alain de Rohan, aux guerres de Flandre en 1383; Jean, vivant en 1448 épouse Constance de Penhoadic; Jean, chevalier de Malte en 1543; Guillaume, chevalier de l'ordre en 1647; Jean-Gilles, né en 1700 à Saint-Pol, membre de l'Académie française, précepteur des enfants de France, commandeur du Saint-Esprit en 1776, abbé de Saint-Philbert de Tournus eu diocèse de Chalons sur Saône, de Saint-Paul au diocèse de Verdun et évêque de Limoges en 1739, décédé en 1784; un abbé de Saint-Gildas des Bois en 1760; plusieurs chevaliers et commandeurs de Saint-Lazare depuis 1721; trois pages du Roi, depuis 1731; quatre membres admis aux honneurs de la Cour depuis 1758; deux frère fusillés à Quiberon en 1795; un maréchal de camp en 1791 et un lieutenant-général en 1821, décédé en 1836.
