Alte und sehr adelige Latium-Familie, bekannt als Colantoni oder Colantonio, ursprünglich aus der Stadt Velletri, wo sie bereits im vierzehnten Jahrhundert zu den Konsularen gehörte, verbreitete sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte in anderen Latium-Städten und auch in den Abruzzen und erfreute sich überall an Glanz und Adel. Die erste Person, über die wir Neuigkeiten haben, ist ein Santi, der im Jahr 1559 Prior der Gemeinde Velletri war. Diese Familie hatte damals auch mehrere Besitzungen auf römischem Gebiet und in der Gegend von Rieti, aber ein sehr großer Zweig davon ging Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts in die Abruzzen über. Tatsächlich wird sie seit vor 1668 dem Patriziat von Aquila zugeschrieben und hatte auch die Baronien von Colleterara und Civitatomasca. Eine andere Familie Colantoni wurde dann in weniger fernen Zeiten mit dem Ehren- und Ziviltitel eines Höflings von Rom geschmückt. Auf jeden Fall hat sich diese Familie in all ihren Zweigen immer
