Ancienne et illustre famille du Frioul-Vénétie-Julienne, originaire de Sicile, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie et du monde. En fait, on pense que la famille est arrivée à Udine en provenance de Sicile dans la première moitié du Xe siècle, peut-être en tant que branche de la noble famille Cola. L'origine de ce patronyme est en fait recherchée dans le patronyme du nom Nicola mais les suffixes -utto et -utti sont typiquement frioulans. En tout cas, les premières attestations des Colauttos à Ronchis (Udine) datent de 1551. Par la suite, ils ont dû s'installer à Tricesimo, trouvant nombre de ses membres comme vicaires de la Pieve di Tricesimo : Don Vincenzo C., vicaire de 1709 à 1718 ; Don Nicolò C., vicaire dans la première moitié du XVIIIe siècle ; Don Giuseppe C., vicaire dans la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle.
