Sulla identità della famiglia C. Romano di Sicilia con i membri della famiglia di Roma e di Napoli non dovrebbe esservi più dubbio. Il Villabianca (Francesco Maria Emanuele e Gaetani, march. di Villabianca) nella sua "Sicilia Nobile" nel vol. II pag. 203 trascrive in proposito il seguente brano del libro dell'abate Domenico De Sanctis (Columnensium Procerum Icones et Memoriae): "E che i Colonnesi di Sicilia, detti più anticamente anche Romani dei baroni di Cesarò, di Fiume, di Nisi, di Monte Albano, di Palizzi ed altri feudi siano dell'istessa famiglia C. nobilissima Romana, e dell'istesso sangue, e discendenza ne fa solenne, e pubblica attestazione il cardinale Prospero nel 1442 a Tomaso C. Romano dei baroni di Cesarò dichiarando essere questa famiglia di Sicilia la medesima che la famiglia di Roma, riconoscendo perciò, e chiamando esso Tomaso suo consanguineo".
