Família calabresa antiga e muito nobre, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália e do mundo. Existem duas hipóteses diferentes em sua origem. Quem quer que essa família seja originária da Normandia e chegou ao Reino de Nápoles com William, capitão dos besteiros de Carlos I de Anjou, que, em troca de seus serviços, concedeu-lhe o feudo de Colosimo, do qual os descendentes teriam Eu trato o sobrenome deles. O outro, mais credenciado, encontra o berço desta nobre casa na Espanha, onde era conhecida como Colosia. Chegou na Itália na época do rei Frederico II, colocou sua casa na Calábria e, no século 16, dominava o território então conhecido como Colosimi.
