Ancient and very noble family from Friuli Venezia-Giulia, of clear and ancestral virtue, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy, with major branches in Veneto and Lombardy, and in the world. The origin of this surname must be sought in the name "Nicola", here with the addition of the suffix "-ùs", once very much in use and having a diminutive-endearment function, we had "Nicolùs" and, by apheresis, " Colùs". Originally from Ospedaletto, a small village in the Friuli mountains, this family was aggregated to the noble Council of Gemona in the 17th century.
