Familia antigua y muy noble de Friuli Venezia-Giulia, de virtud clara y ancestral, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia, con ramas importantes en Veneto y Lombardía, y en el mundo. El origen de este apellido hay que buscarlo en el nombre "Nicola", aquí con la adición del sufijo "-ùs", muy en uso y con función de diminutivo-cariño, tuvimos "Nicolùs" y, por aféresis, "Colús". Originaria de Ospedaletto, un pequeño pueblo en las montañas de Friuli, esta familia se agregó al noble Consejo de Gemona en el siglo XVII. En 1723 la familia Colussi compró, pagando 1200 ducados, y sometiendo varias tierras a bonos feudales por 8000 ducados, la jurisdicción de Cavallico, Beivars y Godia, de la República de Venecia. Este último, con un ducado fechado el 2 de diciembre de 1723, invistió a los hermanos Gian Giuseppe, Gio Battista, Pietro y Francesco,
