According to an ancient tradition, the Comello, also known as Comelli, would have come from France to the Castle of Nimis (Friuli). They were ancient citizens of Udine, patricians of Gradisca and served the Venetian Republic in 1460, under Bartolomeo da Bergamo. Domenico C., on September 25, 1504, had a feudal investiture near Gradisca. Emperor Maximilian awarded the family of the Equestrian Nobility of SRI for merits of war and letters, a nobility later confirmed by the Decree of 12 January 1660 by Emperor Leopold, who added the predicate of Stuckenfeld to the Comello family. Stanislaus II, King of Poland, created Count Domenico, of Carlo Francesco, his Chamberlain at the Court of Warsaw and Knight of Malta, in the second half of the XVII century. From Nimis some members of the family moved to Gradisca and others to Chioggia and then to Venice, to whose branch belong the current representatives
