Según una antigua tradición, el Comello, también conocido como Comelli, habría venido de Francia al Castillo de Nimis (Friuli). Eran antiguos ciudadanos de Udine, patricios de Gradisca y sirvieron a la República de Venecia en 1460, bajo Bartolomeo da Bérgamo. Domenico C., el 25 de septiembre de 1504, tenía una investidura feudal cerca de Gradisca. El emperador Maximiliano otorgó a la familia de la nobleza ecuestre del SRI por méritos de guerra y cartas, una nobleza confirmada más tarde por el decreto del 12 de enero de 1660 por el emperador Leopoldo, quien agregó el predicado de Stuckenfeld a la familia Comello.
