Segundo uma tradição antiga, o Comello, também conhecido como Comelli, teria vindo da França para o Castelo de Nimis (Friuli). Antigos cidadãos de Udine, patrícios de Gradisca e serviram a República de Veneza em 1460, sob o comando de Bartolomeo da Bergamo. Domenico C., em 25 de setembro de 1504, teve uma investidura feudal perto de Gradisca. O imperador Maximiliano concedeu à família da nobreza equestre da SRI méritos de guerra e cartas, uma nobreza posteriormente confirmada pelo decreto de 12 de janeiro de 1660 pelo imperador Leopold, que acrescentou o predicado de Stuckenfeld à família Comello. Stanislaus II, rei da Polônia, criou o conde Domenico, de Carlo Francesco, seu camareiro na corte de Varsóvia e cavaleiro de Malta, na segunda metade do século XVII.
