Nobilissimo casato francese, residente in Auxerre, originariamente, Comines o Commines, un cui ramò, all'epoca di Carlo VIII, passò a risiedere in Italia, ove fu trascritto quale Cominesi. A tal casato appartenne il celeberrimo cavaliere Philippe de C., storico e cronista francese (n. presso Hazebrouck, Fiandra, 1445 circa - m. Argenton, Deux-Sèvres, 1511). Egli, dal 1464 al 1474, alla corte di Borgogna, fu prima scudiero di Carlo il Temerario, poi fu inviato per missioni diplomatiche a Calais (1470), in Bretagna ed in Castiglia. Tuttavia, dopo aver tentato, numerose volte, di ottenere un miglioramento di rapporti fra Carlo il Temerario ed il re di Francia Luigi XI, nell'agosto del 1472 passò al servizio di quest'ultimo. Largamente ricompensato, seppe rendersi assai utile alla politica del re, che lo impiegò in delicate mansioni sia contro il duca di Borgogna, sia con gli Inglesi.
