Originaria di Bergamo, questa famiglia appare a Spilimbergo in Friuli nella seconda metà del cinquecento in condizione popolare e probabilmente mercantile. Tra fratelli Monaco, Gio. Pietro, Francesco e Gio. Batta qm. Guglielmo, qm. Gio. Pietro, che nei registri parrocchiali di Spilimbergo sono detti di Bergamo, diedero ad altrettanti rami. Il primo si spense sulla fine del seicento, il secondo detto di Vidulis, finì con la contessa Giovanna (dec. Udine 1926), moglie del nobile Ettore Corradini che assunse il cognome Corradini Monaco; il terzo ha a suo unico rappresentante il conte Pio Fortunato nato nel 1848 e celibe. La famiglia quindi va estinguendosi. Cesare Monaco, figlio del sunnominato Gio. Pietro, trasportò residenza a Udine, dove nel 1634 il 20 di luglio fu accolto nella cittadina popolare (Acta XLII 253, Bibl. com. Udine).
