Di origine spagnola e il cui primitivo cognome era Mello. Nel 1440 papa Eugenio IV dei Condulmier di Venezia volendo premiare il suo gentiluomo e uomo d'arme Giacomo Mello spagnolo di Valenza, gli donò terre di Recanati, gli concesse di prendere il suo cognome e il suo stemma. Gli attuali discendenti di Recanati sono i discendenti di costui; solo che l'antico e primitivo cognome veneto Condulmier si tramutò nella pronuncia locale. Sono da ricordare un Giacomo che fu pretore a Firenze nel 1453 e un Filippo che fu arcivescovo di Nazareth nel 1685. Questa famiglia possedette pure molte baronie e fu tra le principali di Recanati, dove sedendo i suoi membri in quel nobile Consiglio, ebbero anche quella nobiltà benchè già fossero stati fatti nobili da papa Eugenio IV nel 1440.
