The family originates from the Ridolfi family, for these were contested created by SR church with Brief by Pope Eugene IV since 1434. The investitures of the lands of Civitella and Civitucola had from the same pontiff. For the marriage contracted by Giovanni Contestabile with Anna Alfani della Staffa, heiress of this house, the family inherited its name and property. An Agesilao, in 1789, from Narni moved his family's permanent home to Perugia. Dionysius in 1803 was bishop of Viterbo; Giancarlo was a distinguished archaeologist; Francesco twice was gonfalonier of Perugia. Several dressed the dress of the SMO Gerosolimitano and that of S.Stefano di Toscana. In this family a branch of the Armanni of Gubbio became extinct, which was later called Della Staffa. Since the 10th century, the Armanni were counts of Angelo and Monte Salaiolo. They had the honor of the birthplace of the fatherly avola of S. Ubaldo
