La famiglia originaria dalla Savoia, data la sua nobiltá dall'epoca di Emanuele Filiberto, col nobile Stefano, che fu segretario di quel gran Principe. Nacquero da Stefano parecchi figli, fra cui, continuatore della linea, Filippo, padre di Giovanni Battista, di Bonifacio e di Luigi, i quali il 7 ottobre 1601, ricevevano dal Duca di Savoia, Carlo Emanuele il Grande, Patenti di conferma della loro nobiltá. Luigi C., primogenito, procreó Andrea che, nato il 7 novembre 1623, fu signore di Moussy, di Magny e della Biollée. Egli lasció numerosa prole, che diede luogo a due linee: la linea primogenita, tuttora fiorente, detta C. de Magny, e la linea secondogenita, estintasi da alcuni decenni, detta C. de Moussy. Fra i personaggi della linea primogenita meritano singolare menzione i fratelli Claudio Francesco, avvocato al Senato di Savoia, sindaco d'Annecy, come il padre; e Claudio Melchiorre, cavaliere dell'Ordine Mauriziano, arciere della Guardia, morto a Verrua,
