Desde os primeiros dias da república veneziana, foi contabilizado entre as doze famílias qualificadas do título de apostólica por terem eleito o primeiro Doge e com quem o corpo da nobreza patrícia foi estabelecido. Era também dos tribunais de Rialto e possuía várias vezes a regência geral. Ele possuía o condado de Joppe ou Zaffo na Síria pela concessão de Caterina Cornaro, rainha de Chipre, e era amante de Ascalona, Rama, Mirabel e Ibelin. Oito Doges, muitos Senadores Provisórios, Savi de Terraferma, Embaixadores, Procuradores de San Marco, podestàs, inquisidores, capitães, generais etc., foram entregues à república, e na hierarquia eclesiástica tinham, sobre quatro Patriarcas de Veneza, um Cardeal Gaspare, criado por Paulo III em 1585. Foi confirmado no título municipal e nos Senhorios pelo Estado de Veneto com o Decreto do Senado de 13 de setembro de 1784 e depois confirmado na nobreza com a Resolução Soberana de 1º de
