Di antichissima origine, dal contado di Seprio di cui fu signora col titolo comitale, trasse il proprio nome. Questi conti del Serpio furono Principi del S.R.I. e signori di Ramate, di Mendrisio, di Cistello e di molte altre castella e giurisdizioni. Dopo la pace di Costanza i loro possedimenti furono invasi dai Milanesi, poi dagli Arcivescovi, dai Torriani, dai Visconti, e il castel Seprio fu distrutto dall'Arciv. Ottone. Verso la fine del XIV secolo, un ramo di questa famiglia fu trapiantato in Venezia dal conte Francesco di Adamino, e fu ascritto a quel patriziato. Fu inoltre aggregato al Consiglio nobile di Padova nel 1784 e ammesso agli onori di Corte sotto il governo austriaco. Sigifredo Conte di Palazzo di Ludovico II e del re Berengario, governatore di Pavia e di Piacenza; Giovanni e Stefano condottieri delle milizie venete nelle battaglie date a Francesco Sforza; Antonio nel 1449 procurò la dedizione
