Antica ed assai nobile famiglia toscana, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nota come Contucci o Contrucci, questa illustre stirpe ebbe culla nella città Montepulciano da donde poi diramò anche in altri luoghi. E' importante notare che non sempre la forma originaria del cognome si manteneva intatta nei secoli con la sua primitiva grafia. Spesso a causa di trascrizioni errate, di trasformazioni dialettali secondo le regioni ove la stirpe via via si portava, della scrittura incomprensibile degli scrivani etc., si avevano modificazioni della fonetica e della grafia. In ogni modo, tradizione vuole che questa famiglia vanti origini sin dall'anno mille e che goda sin dalle sue origini del titolo di Patrizi senesi. Quel che però è certo è che essa figura tra le più notevoli di Montepulciano sin almeno dalla metà del XIV secolo, quando alcuni dei suoi esponenti furono Gonfalonieri. Nel
