Da Contuccio, di Matteo, ammesso alla cittadinanza fiorentina nel 1434 e a quella di Ancona nel 1445, nacque Francesco, padre a sua volta di altro Francesco che nel 1513 venne eletto Gonfaloniere di Montepulciano: carica alla quale i membri della famiglia furono poi costantemente ammessi. Fratello di questo Francesco fu Antonio, che ebbe tra figli, Contuccio, Giulio e Sforza, coi quali la famiglia si divise in 3 rami; quello di Sforza fu aggregato alla cittadinanza senese in persona di Angelo, Giuseppe e Antonio, del Capitano Antonio, con deliberazione del Consiglio di Balía del 17 febbraio 1716. In continuato godimento dei primi onori civici, il trattamento civile e le cospicue alleanze consentirono alla famiglia di esser ricevuti per giustizia nel sacro militare Ordine di S. Stefano, del quale Domenico, di Alamanno, vestí le divise di cavaliere il 21 agosto 1721. La famiglia fu ascritta alla nobiltá di Montepulciano con decreto del
