Anche per questa famiglia, la prima pagina della sua storia s'apre sugli spalti della città tortonese assediata dal Barbarossa e dove il patrizio Ugotto P. il 15 aprile 1155 s'immolò dopo un combattimento durato ben dieci ore perimpedire che il Borgo Nuovo cadesse in mano nemica; non è noto il luogo ove i Ponzano emigrassero dopo la resa della città che imponeva l'esodo di tutti gli abitanti, tuttavia li ritroviamo non molti anni dopo nuovamente in Tortona come da istrumento del 10 gennaio 1186 ove Giacomo è canonico del Capitolo della cattedrale ed è tuttora vivente nel 1200. A Vercelli un Manfredo P. appare in atti del 13 luglio 1167 relativi a permuta di beni in Caresana tra Maltraverso di Pezzana ed i canonici di s. Eusebio, e del 30 giugno e primo luglio 1169 in cui il giudice ed assessore del vescovo di Vercelli sentenzia sulle vertenze insorte tra
