Among the most ancient and noble families of Perugia, with illustrious branches also in Florence and Rome, spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. Among the first characters whose historical memory we have is that Giovanni Coppoli, praetor of Perugia as early as 1196. From the volumes of the famous "Historical-blasonic dictionary of extinct and flourishing Italian noble and notable families", by the genealogist Giovan Battista di Crollalanza (1886 ), we get to know other illustrious personalities, such as: Ranieri Coppoli, distinguished professor of law; Giovanni Coppoli, captain of the people in Florence in 1336; Francesco Coppoli, senator of Rome in 1427 and 1436; Cecilia Coppoli, abbess of Foligno, Perugia-Monteluce and Urbino, who from Pope Sixtus IV obtained permission to restore the rule of St. Clare of 1253 in some monasteries.
