Ancienne et noble famille italienne, originaire de Gênes, de vertu claire et ancestrale, qui s'est répandue dans le monde entier au fil des siècles. Connu à l'origine sous le nom de Morandi, lorsqu'en 1528 il fut intégré à l'hôtel De Grilli (= structure organisationnelle dans laquelle se regroupèrent plusieurs familles liées par le sang ou par un intérêt commun), il était déjà divisé en de nombreuses branches, dont certaines au fil du temps ont subi des changements dans le nom de famille, comprenant les formes Corandi, Corando et Corande. C’était autrefois un phénomène très fréquent, avant la cristallisation et l’institutionnalisation du registre. En tout cas, on s'en souvient depuis 1170, date à laquelle elle devint partie du Conseil d'État de la République de Gênes. Giacomo occupa au XIVe siècle le poste de conseiller de guerre, capitaine et camarade d'Almirante Tommaso de 'Franchi Vignoso, lors du rachat de l'île de Scio.
